The redesign that finally made the site sell

A client had a beautiful site that didn't sell a thing. We changed what it said before we changed how it looked.

I started where most people do — cleaner layout, better photos, a fresh font. It looked sharper and still converted nothing.

The traffic was fine. People landed, scrolled, and left. The problem wasn't design taste; it was that the page never said what they would get or who it was for.

Frustrated, because the prettier version proved a point I didn't want to admit — looks don't sell.

The analytics were clear about where people dropped, and that gave me something concrete to fix instead of guessing.

We rewrote the top of every page around one outcome and one buyer, put the proof above the fold, and cut three menus down to one action.

A redesign that ignores the words is just decoration. Fix the message first; the layout serves it.

I now write the page before I design it — outcome, buyer, proof, action — then style around that spine.
