How to Create an Intellectual Product People Buy

How to Create an Intellectual Product People Buy

You don't need a huge audience to sell what you know — you need one specific result packaged clearly. The hardest part isn't making it; it's choosing what it does.

Build it around one outcome you can deliver

Pick a single, concrete result your buyer wants and build the product to deliver exactly that. A narrow product that solves one problem completely beats a broad one that gestures at many.

Make it usable, not just informative

Give people something to do, not just something to read — a template, a checklist, a worked example. Buyers pay for the shortcut to the result, not for more information to sort through.

Price it to the result, and prove it

Set the price against what the outcome is worth, and show one piece of proof that it works. People buy a result they believe in, not a page count.

Key takeaways

  • Center the product on one deliverable outcome.
  • Make it actionable — templates and examples, not just text.
  • Price to the result, not the length.
  • Show one honest proof that it works.

The bottom line

An intellectual product is a packaged result. Choose one outcome, make it usable, price it to the value, and prove it delivers.

How to Build and Sell an AI Solution People Will Actually Pay For

How to Build and Sell an AI Solution People Will Actually Pay For

Most AI products fail for one reason — they sell a clever tool instead of a finished outcome. Buyers don't pay for models; they pay to have a painful, repeated task taken off their plate.

Start with one expensive, repeated task

Don't start with the model. Start with a task a specific business already does by hand, over and over, that costs them time or money. The narrower and more repetitive, the better — if they do it daily and resent it, you've found your product.

Sell the outcome, not the agent

Wrap the system so the buyer never thinks about prompts, models, or workflows. They hand over the input and get the finished result. What you sell is the transformation — five hours a week back, not an LLM pipeline.

Price against the hours it replaces

Anchor the price to what the task costs them now — the salaried hours, the missed follow-ups, the delay — not to your API bill. A workflow that saves a team a day a week is worth far more than the few dollars it costs to run.

Key takeaways

  • Build for one painful, repeated task — not a general tool.
  • Hide the machinery; sell the finished outcome.
  • Price against the hours and money the task costs.
  • Ship something a real business can use this week.

The bottom line

The AI era rewards whoever turns a capability into a result someone can buy. Pick one task a business already pays to do badly, automate it end to end, and sell the hours back.

Turning what I knew into something I could sell

I'd given the same advice away a hundred times. Packaging it once turned it from free help into a product that sells while I sleep.

I answered every question personally, over and over, in DMs and on calls, for free.

It didn't scale, and free-and-personal quietly told people the knowledge wasn't worth paying for.

Generous but drained, and a little resentful of my own habit.

The advice clearly worked — people kept coming back for it — which meant it had real value I wasn't capturing.

I turned the repeated answer into one clear product: a short guide with a template and examples, priced honestly.

If you explain the same thing repeatedly, it's a product. Package it once and let it work without you.

I'm building a small library of these — each one a question I used to answer for free.
